Symtrimics – Physician Prescribed Wellness

Symtrimics has provided the nutrition, nutraceauticals, online portal for tracking progress, coaching, goal setting all with one goal – change the entire groups baseline health and move towards wellness for life.

Symtrimics is all about transformation – the  transformation to your ideal / perfect body.

Symtrimics contains the mechanisms by which healthy people live their lives. Incorporating adult education and brain function techniques, we are able to shift the thought patterns to a healthy lifestyle.  Symtrimics provides Professional One-On-One Coaching, Low Glycemic Nutrition (short term) (we teach you to fish), Medical Grade Nutraceuticals, weducation and integration with the low glycemic style of eating (long-term), exercise, your symtrimics physician for blood panels, body baselines, clinic visits and support and our online portal which brings it all together.

We focus on four areas:

1.  Stabilization of blood sugar: Low glycemic eating has been found in studies to improve weight loss efforts, improve weight loss maintenance, lower oxidation through improved food choices, improve nutrient intake and elevate fiber intake.

2.  Reduce oxidation and inflammation: Oxidation and inflammation are base causes of most degenerative diseases.  By improving these parameters through diet, exercise and supplementation, studies show a reduction the risk factors for chronic disease.

3.  Increased movement:  Our program increases movement through 3 mechanisms -”spare change” (inserting small periods of increased activity during the day), “Natural Movement” (encouraging fun and interesting activities) and “Interval Training” (short spurts of maximal effort which has been found to dramatically increase wellness parameters).

4.  Social, emotional and cultural support: Through a coaching and support program which involves over 60 convenient contact points the first year, we move the belief system of patients from “Not sure” to confident and secure in their health program.  In addition, we implement structures which assist with family and friend involvement in the wellness process, creating a matrix of support to take the patient to LIFELONG health habits.

Taking Control by Thinking Positively

On this week’s motivational Transformation Talks I talked about having Positivity in order to gain control.  I want you all to understand how important it is have a positive attitude in order to reach your goals.  Please try this easy activity in order to appreciate how your attitude can influence every aspect of your training.

Your Tools for Success: Today’s activity requires a little assistance.  Hold your arms out to the side and think of something that really depresses you.  Have a friend try to push your arms down while you’re thinking this negative thought.  Now hold your arms again and think of something that really inspires you and brings you happiness.  Again, have a friend try to push your arms down while you’re thinking this positive thought.  You will be amazed at them difference.

Come up with a list of five positive words, thoughts or objects that you can bring to the front of your mind when you are feeling down or “defeated.”  Use these words or thoughts to give you strength and bring back your passion.

I’ll end things by offering some of Dr. Ian K. Smith’s suggestions for Creating Happiness:

  • Do five acts of kindness
  • Create a gratitude journal
  • Forgive—release yourself from grudges
  • Write a thank you letter to someone who has helped you

If you don’t like something change it; if you can’t change it, change the way you think about it.

Readdressing Our Goals

I was slapped with a big shocker this week.  My Dad had a heart attack this past weekend.  He has slowly been putting on weight over the years, and he carries most the weight in his stomach.  So even Olympic Gold Medalists’ families aren’t immune to weight management issues.  I’ve been gently hinting to him about cutting back, but I’ve always known that the change is not going to occur unless he wants to make it himself.  I really hope he wants to now.

The situation really scared me, but instead of crumbling under the circumstance, I choose to see this as an opportunity.  An opportunity to lend him encouragement towards reaching some new goals he’s set and to help all of you readdress the goals each of you have.

Ask yourself again why you’ve decided to change your life now.  This is going to be the long term goal that drives you every day to get your butt in the gym or leave the donut in the box.  You also have to develop either daily or weekly short term goals.  These goals should be at least one action step you decide to take either mentally or physically.  It can be to go to the gym 5 times this week, it can be to take the stairs every time you have the option, or even to get up and go through a confidence ritual before you start your day.

My challenge for you this week is three-fold.  First, remind yourself why you are ultimately doing this.  This is going to be the overall driving force that allows you to choose health and choose your life.  Secondly, visualize a positive outcome to your goals.  I would literally imagine being on the Olympic podium ever time I was suffering through a run or was toiling away in the gym.  And lastly, figure out what is going to put you back on the right path if you are to ever slip from your directed goals.  Olympic athletes are continually reminding themselves of their goals and the elite of the pack typilly plan ahead for what they’ll do when they falter.

The more intensely we feel about an idea or a goal, the more assuredly the idea, buried deep in our subconscious, will direct us along the path to its fulfillment.

Putting Out The Fire

Kelly Sennholz, MDInflammation in your body can be thought of like a fire: a controlled burn can be used to improve the fallow field, but out of control, can cause significant collateral damage.
Utilizing good food choices and supplementation to establish healthy ratios of Omega 6’s to Omega 3’s is one way to dramatically decrease the risk factors for degenerative diseases.

We have carefully selected high quality Omega 3 fatty acids to compliment the lifestyle changes prescribed in the Symtrimics Programs.  If you want to read a little more about the effects of Omega 3 fatty acids and how to improve these ratios in your body, you can click on http://www.kellysennholz.com/2010/05/putting-out-fire.html to read more.

The Hazards of Health Eating

Kelly Sennholz, MDReading labels is important when purchasing any processed foods.  Case in point:  I found this delicious 4 bean salad I was buying from a big box store.  It has green veggies, protein from beans, lots of fiber and onions- -a great, well rounded, low glycemic snack. Great so far, right?  A closer look at the label revealed there was only 130 calories per serving.  Still good.  However, looking at my bowl, it seemed a realistic serving was really two of their “servings”. Oh, and they didn’t mention the FIFTEEN grams of added sugars to the label’s serving.  Opps.  Upon tasting it, it tasted WAY too sweet.  I guess I’ll make my own 4 bean salad from now on!!

Please share with us an healthy snacks you have discovered, which are around 200 calories, have low glycemic carbs, protein, lots of fiber and good fats.  My assistant and I had a good laugh about my new “snack”.  Keep reading the labels to determine the health of your foods!!  I will, too. :)

Dr. Sennholz

DON’T SETTLE

This week on the motivational Transformation Talks, I spoke about NOT SETTLING!  After being on a program for a few weeks, many people stop taking the risks they used to and start settling for lesser results.  You DESERVE a healthier life and that means that you can no longer settle for mediocre results.

Ask yourself if you are settling for second best.  Are you telling yourself that’s okay?  That your efforts are “good enough”?  Are you content with your weight being “tolerable”?  Are you deserving of more?

You need to figure out what risks you could be taking to make sure you’re not just aiming for what is comfortable.  No great leader, CEO or Olympic champion ever settled for what was “satisfactory.”  Pick a new goal, one that makes you stretch, and don’t settle for anything “easy.”  People rarely achieve a level of success higher than their ultimate goals, so aim high.

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover. ~Mark Twain

The “Tedd” Effect

Kelly Sennholz, MDWhat a great news story on Tedd and what a fantastic job and an incredible amount of heart and power you have shown!!  We are all so proud of your accomplishments and it is terrific to see what a difference you are making for the kids.  You look ma-a-a-r-r-r-velous.

On our Tuesday Talks yesterday we talked about what to do when the contest is over.  Kathy is right, making plans now and beginning to insert them in to daily habits is a great way to keep up the activity.  With the three activity supports in Symtrimics, including “Spare Change”, Natural Movement™ and Interval Training, it will be easy to keep up the great work.

This week, everyone is taking an opportunity to step out of the box a little and try on something new.  One of the biggest reasons for utilizing the Symtrimics program is to have a simple, effective and sustainable lifeline to your own health.  I have worked with lots of patients who lost over a 100 pounds and were able to keep it off over time by utilizing these techniques and you can all do it, too!  We are committed to supporting ALL the biggest losers in their efforts to maintain the gains you have achieved.

Great work, everyone!!

I’m Keeping An Eye On YOU!

Kelly Sennholz, MD

Many people suffer from dry eyes as they get older.  Research shows that people who consume higher amounts of good fats are less likely to have dry eyes.  If you suffer from dry eyes, increase your intake of salmon, sardines and mackerel which, contain omega-3 fatty acids.

The body uses these fats to create more tears, among many other things.  In addition, you can increase your intake of the specific omega 3 fatty acids we have given you, which will also help you body in many, many ways.

If you have other vision issues, please feel free to contact us regarding some excellent recommendations.

To Your Health,
Dr. Sennholz

I just LOVED the quote for today, repeated below.

Kelly Sennholz, MD

You have all moved up MANY notches in positivity and it is a fantastic watching you do it!!  I notice that when you have times of “what can I eat” you are shifting your thoughts quicker and more easily to healthy thoughts.   If you let your goals card go, dig it out again. You are moving easily into the life of a healthy, energetic person.

Keep up the fantastic work.

To Your Health,
Dr. Sennholz

The “real you” is a magnificent, unique being with enormous potential and capacity for experiencing love of yourself and extending love to others. So keep your interest in life at a high level by being in the company of enthusiastic people. This way, you will get infected by their positive attitude. You will view the world in its full shining glory and move around oozing with energy. In the same manner, it would be wise to stay away from negatively inclined thinkers. When you are surrounded by negative people who constantly put you and your ideas down, your self-esteem is lowered.

Embracing Change

This week on the motivational Transformation Talks, I spoke about EMBRACING CHANGE!  I understand many of you are hitting some plateaus.  Just as you get tired with routine exercise, so does your body.  You need to give your mind AND body a jolt by mixing it up.  We want to help you to think differently about the actions you take…and that includes making sure you don’t get stuck in the comfort zone.

The man who looks for security, even in the mind, is like a man who would chop off his limbs in order to have artificial ones which will give him no pain or trouble. ~Henry Miller

There are many positive results that can come out of shocking your system.  We are often so focused on the potentially negative results of making a change that we never reap the rewards of that actual alteration.  I nearly made that same mistake myself the year before my second Olympic games…the year I won.

Take this as an opportunity to try a sport or activity that you’ve never done before, but always thought would be fun.  Push yourself mentally by trying something that scares you a bit.  We need to explore the unknown in order to further our learning.  You are all growing mentally while you shrink physically.

Nikki Stone’s Best Advice for “Bouncing Back” from Your Weight Management Challenges

This week in the Symtrimics Tuesday Talk, I spoke to everyone about dealing with overcoming adversities to help you deal with any weight management obstacle you may encounter.  When your body and mind go through so many changes to reach your health and wellness goals, you are bound to hit one or two road blocks along the way—particularly because this change doesn’t happen overnight.  I wanted to remind you of the story and activity that I use to overcome setbacks and hurdles.  It has helped me “bounce back” from an endless number of stressful and challenging situations.

Overcome Your Adversities by Bouncing Back

My Perspective: When my doctor told me I was going to have to push through agonizing pain if I was ever to get back to aerial jumping again after my severe spinal injury, I knew I needed some external focus to remind me to keep my tough outer shell.  The “bounce back” activity below explains why I took a Super Ball with me to the gym every day as I was working on my comeback.  When I thought I reached as much pain as I could take, and wanted to give up, I would bounce my Super Ball and remind myself to stay strong.

Your Tools for Success: General George S. Patton stated, “Success is how high you bounce when you hit rock bottom.” We all reach that low point at times, and need to know we can rebound.  If you don’t stay strong when adversity hits, you certainly aren’t going to bounce back very well.

Buy yourself a Super Ball today to use as a visual reminder to keep yourself strong.  When challenges present themselves, bounce your Super Ball to remind yourself to have that hard outer shell so you can bounce back.  You’ll notice that a cotton ball doesn’t bounce back quite as well!

It helps to have some small reminder that no obstacle is too big to overcome.  For some it may be a quote or phrase they call to mind.  For others it could be an object they keep in their pocket or pinned to the wall.  For me, it is a Super Ball and that simple little ball has helped me prove a number of naysayers wrong along the way.  I hope this tip keeps you strong and allows you to prove all your weight loss naysayers wrong as well
